Restrict what users can do with your PDF documents.

Available Permissions

Setting Permissions

1. Open the document
2. Click Security → Permissions
3. Set a permissions (owner) password
4. Configure allowed actions
5. Click Apply

Common Configurations

View Only

Restrict everything:

• ❌ Print
• ❌ Copy
• ❌ Edit
• ❌ Annotations
• ❌ Forms
• ❌ Extract

Print Only

Allow printing but prevent copying:

• ✅ Print
• ✅ Print High Quality
• ❌ Copy
• ❌ Edit
• ❌ All others

Form Filling

Allow completing forms:

• ❌ Print (or ✅)
• ❌ Copy
• ❌ Edit
• ✅ Fill Forms
• ❌ Others

Review & Comment

Allow annotations:

• ✅ Print
• ❌ Copy
• ❌ Edit
• ✅ Add/Edit Annotations
• ❌ Others

Print Restrictions

No Printing

Document cannot be printed.

Low Resolution

Prints as low-quality image:

• 150 DPI maximum
• Prevents high-quality reproduction
• Still readable

High Resolution

Full quality printing allowed.

Changing Permissions

1. Open the document
2. Enter the permissions password
3. Click Security → Permissions
4. Modify settings
5. Click Apply

Removing Permissions

1. Open the document
2. Enter the permissions password
3. Click Security → Remove Permissions
4. Confirm removal

Limitations

Best Practices

• Always set a strong permissions password
• Combine with open password for sensitive docs
• Use high encryption (256-bit AES)
• Test permissions before distribution
• Document your permission settings
