Comprehensive logging of all signing activity.
E-Sign features require a Pro plan or higher.
What is an Audit Trail?
An audit trail is a chronological record of all actions taken during the signing process:
- Who did what
- When they did it
- Where they were (IP address)
- System information
Captured Events
Envelope Events
| Event | Description |

| Created | Envelope was created |
| Sent | Envelope was sent to signers |
| Viewed | Document was opened |
| Signed | Signature was applied |
| Completed | All signers finished |
| Declined | A signer declined |
| Voided | Sender cancelled |
Field Events

| Signature Applied | Signature was placed |
| Initials Applied | Initials were placed |
System Events

| Email Sent | Notification was delivered |
| Reminder Sent | Reminder was sent |

| Consent Given | Signer agreed to e-sign |
Event Details
Each event captures:
- Timestamp: Exact date and time (UTC)
- Actor: Who performed the action
- Action: What was done
- IP Address: Network location
- User Agent: Browser/device info
- Location: Geographic location (if available)
Hash Chain Integrity
Events are cryptographically linked:
- Each event has a SHA-256 hash
- Each hash includes the previous hash
- Chain cannot be modified without detection
- Tamper-evident by design
Viewing the Audit Trail
In the Dashboard
- Open the envelope
- Click Audit Trail tab
- View all events chronologically
In Completed Documents
Audit trail summary is included in:
- Certificate of Completion (attached PDF page)
- Downloadable audit report
Exporting Audit Trails
PDF Export
- Open the envelope
- Click Export → Audit Trail PDF
- Download the formatted report
JSON Export
For integration and record-keeping:
- Use the API to retrieve audit events
- Store in your systems
- Include in compliance archives

Audit trails serve as evidence:

Retention
Audit trails are retained:
- As long as the document exists
- Minimum 7 years (configurable)
- Enterprise can set custom retention
- Cannot be deleted independently
