Signature Types

Different ways signers can create their signature.

E-Sign features require a Pro plan or higher.

Draw Signature

Draw your signature using mouse or touch:

On Desktop

  1. Click the signature field
  2. In the signature panel, select Draw
  3. Use mouse to draw signature
  4. Clear and retry if needed
  5. Click Apply

On Mobile

  1. Tap the signature field
  2. Select Draw
  3. Use finger to draw signature
  4. The larger canvas makes drawing easier
  5. Tap Apply

Tips for Drawing

  • Use smooth, continuous strokes
  • Take your time
  • Practice if needed
  • Clear and redraw if not satisfied

Type Signature

Create a signature by typing your name:

  1. Click the signature field
  2. Select Type
  3. Enter your name
  4. Choose a signature style (font)
  5. Preview the result
  6. Click Apply

Available Styles

Multiple font options that look like signatures:

  • Script style
  • Handwritten style
  • Formal style
  • Casual style

Upload Signature

Use an existing signature image:

  1. Click the signature field
  2. Select Upload
  3. Choose an image file
  4. Crop and position
  5. Click Apply

Image Requirements

  • PNG or JPEG format
  • Clear, high-contrast image
  • Transparent background preferred
  • Recommended: signature on white paper, photographed

Saved Signatures

After creating a signature, you can save it:

Save for This Session

  1. Create your signature
  2. Check Save for this envelope
  3. Reuse on other fields in same document

Adopt Permanently

If you have a Penvio account:

  1. Create your signature
  2. Check Save as my signature
  3. Available for future documents
  4. Update anytime in settings

Initials

Same options as signatures:

  • Draw initials
  • Type initials
  • Upload initials image

Initials are typically smaller and used for:

  • Acknowledging each page
  • Marking amendments
  • Confirming sections

All signature types are legally valid:

  • Drawn, typed, and uploaded signatures carry equal weight
  • ESIGN Act recognizes electronic signatures
  • Intent to sign is what matters
  • Audit trail documents the action
