Redact Content
Permanently remove sensitive information from PDFs.
Goal
Securely remove text, images, or areas that should not be visible.
Redaction requires a Pro plan or higher. View plans
Redaction is permanent and irreversible. Always keep a backup of the original document before applying redactions.
Mark and Apply Redactions
Mark Content for Redaction
Open the PDF and select the Redaction tool. Mark content to redact:
- Text: Click and drag over text
- Area: Draw a rectangle over any area
Marked content shows a red outline.
Review Marks
Review all redaction marks. Content is still visible at this stage. Add or remove marks as needed.
Apply Redaction
Click Apply Redactions and confirm the action. Content is permanently removed. Save the document.
Search and Redact
Find and redact matching text:
- Click Search and Redact
- Enter a search term (e.g., “555-” for phone numbers)
- Review all matches
- Select which to redact
- Apply redactions
Tips
- Work on a copy, not the original
- Review carefully before applying
- Run sanitization after redaction to remove metadata
- Verify redaction by trying to select the area
Redaction Appearance
Customize how redacted areas look:
- Black fill (default)
- Custom color
- Overlay text (e.g., “REDACTED”)
