Password Protect
Encrypt your PDF with a password.
Goal
Add password protection so only authorized people can open the document.
There is no password recovery option. If you lose the password, the document cannot be unlocked. Store passwords securely in a password manager.
Open Security Settings
Open the PDF and click Security → Password Protect.
Set Open Password
Enter an Open Password. This password is required to view the document.
Set Permissions Password (Optional)
Enter a Permissions Password to control editing restrictions.
Choose Encryption
Choose encryption level (256-bit AES recommended).
Apply and Save
Click Apply and save the document.
Password Types

Add Restrictions
With a permissions password, you can also restrict:
- Printing
- Copying text/images
- Editing
- Form filling
- Commenting
Tips
- Use strong passwords (12+ characters)
- Store passwords securely (password manager)
- Share passwords through a separate channel
Remove Password
- Open the password-protected PDF (enter password)
- Click Security → Remove Password
- Enter the permissions password if set
- Confirm removal
