Ownership Transfer

Transfer organization ownership to another member.

Ownership transfer is irreversible once confirmed. Only platform administrators can initiate transfers, and the current owner must confirm via email.

Overview

Ownership transfer moves the Owner role from one organization member to another. This is useful when leadership changes or when an owner is leaving the organization.

How It Works

Platform Admin Initiates Transfer

A platform administrator navigates to Admin > Organizations, selects the organization, and clicks Transfer Ownership. They select the new owner from the list of current organization members.

Current Owner Receives Confirmation Email

The current owner receives an email with a secure confirmation link. The email explains who the new owner will be and what happens after confirmation.

Current Owner Confirms

The current owner clicks the confirmation link, which opens a page at /org/transfer/[token]. They review the transfer details and click Confirm Transfer.

Ownership is Transferred

  • The selected member becomes the new Owner
  • The previous owner is automatically changed to Admin role
  • Both users are notified of the change

Audit Trail

Two audit events are logged:

  • OWNERSHIP_TRANSFER_REQUEST - When the transfer is initiated
  • OWNERSHIP_TRANSFER_COMPLETE - When the transfer is confirmed and executed
