Markup Tools
Add shapes, lines, and freehand drawings to your PDFs.
Shapes
Rectangle
Draw rectangles:
- Select the Rectangle tool
- Click and drag to draw
- Release to finish
Hold Shift to draw a perfect square.
Ellipse
Draw circles and ovals:
- Select the Ellipse tool
- Click and drag to draw
- Release to finish
Hold Shift to draw a perfect circle.
Polygon
Draw multi-sided shapes:
- Select the Polygon tool
- Click to place each vertex
- Double-click to close the shape
Cloud
Draw cloud shapes (review markup):
- Select the Cloud tool
- Click to place each point
- Double-click to close
Lines
Straight Line
Draw lines:
- Select the Line tool
- Click to start
- Drag and release to finish
Hold Shift to constrain to 45° angles.
Arrow
Draw arrows:
- Select the Arrow tool
- Click to start (tail)
- Drag and release (head)
Polyline
Draw connected line segments:
- Select the Polyline tool
- Click to place each point
- Double-click to finish
Freehand Drawing
Pencil
Draw freely:
- Select the Pencil tool
- Click and drag to draw
- Release to finish
Eraser
Remove freehand drawings:
- Select the Eraser tool
- Click and drag over marks to erase
Shape Properties
Fill
- Color: Interior color
- Opacity: Transparency level
- None: No fill (outline only)
Stroke
- Color: Outline color
- Width: Line thickness (1-12pt)
- Style: Solid, dashed, dotted
Line Endings
For lines and arrows:
- None
- Open Arrow
- Closed Arrow
- Circle
- Diamond
- Square
Tips
- Use shapes to highlight areas
- Arrows help direct attention
- Cloud shapes are standard for review comments
